Jordan – Evaluation of the Economic Growth Program

2003

In 2003, USAID’s strategy for creating sustainable improvements in the quality of life for Jordanians encompassed a broad range of economic and social sector initiatives designed to improve access to credit and business services, create a conducive economic and business enabling environment, and support key policy reforms. Checchi undertook a comprehensive evaluation of this strategy and its major program activities. In addition to examining performance and impact at the activity level, the team provided a set of strategic guidelines and recommendations for USAID to utilize in developing a new economic opportunities strategy for 2004 and beyond, with emphasis on accelerating Jordan’s transition to a knowledge-based, high growth economy with the capacity to more broadly distribute the fruits of economic growth.
