El Salvador - Justice Sector Strengthening Activity
USAID (2013 - 2018)
In March 2013, Checchi Consulting was awarded a five-year contract by USAID to implement the Justice Sector Strengthening Project in El Salvador. This is a follow-on contract to the task order that the Company executed in El Salvador from 2008 to 2012, and builds upon important accomplishments in the areas of community policing, assistance for the victims of domestic and sexual violence, and court administration. Working with the National Civilian Police, the Company will expand community policing activities to help reduce crime and violence. The Company also will work to improve case tracking and case management systems in the courts, develop inter-institutional protocols to improve the quality of criminal investigations, and establish victimsí assistance centers to provide medical, psychological and legal services for the victims of domestic and sexual violence. Finally, the Company will work with civil society organizations to enhance transparency and accountability in the criminal justice system.

El Salvador - Justice System Improvement Program
USAID (2008 - 2012)
Checchi implemented a four-year task order under USAID's Rule of Law IQC to help strengthen the criminal justice system in El Salvador. The company provided technical assistance in the implementation of a new criminal procedure code. Among other activities, the Checchi team worked to promote better coordination between the National Civilian Police and the Attorney General's Office in the investigation and prosecution of criminal cases. The team worked to strengthen the capacity for forensic investigation and increase the use of scientific evidence as a basis for conviction. In addition, Checchi provided assistance to the Attorney General's Office to reengineer its organizational structure and processes. Finally, Checchi assisted with the development and implementation of a Domestic Violence Initiative and a Rape Crisis Center Model.

El Salvador - Judicial Reform Projects I and II
USAID (1990 - 1998)
Under two consecutive contracts, Checchi provided technical assistance and training services to support the transition from an inquisitorial criminal justice system to a modern, adversarial system in El Salvador. The Checchi team worked in the following areas: (1) legal reform, including assistance with the drafting of a new Criminal Code and Criminal Procedure Code; (2) institutional strengthening of the Judicial Branch, the Attorney General's Office, the Public Defender's Office and the Judicial Training School; and (3) promoting greater popular understanding of the reforms through public education/awareness campaigns that included the use of television, radio and a wide range of print media. Checchi also collaborated with Salvadoran non-governmental organizations to promote the participation of civil society in the reform process.

El Salvador - Evaluation of Environmental NGO Strengthening Project
USAID (1995)
The Environmental NGO Strengthening Project, implemented through a cooperative agreement with the Pan American Development Foundation, was designed to work with national level NGOs aspiring to become more influential in Salvadoran natural resource management and policy. Checchi was contracted to evaluate the project's performance and assess the potential for long-range institutional sustainability of project beneficiaries.
